From Ocean to Outreach: Anabel’s Journey

Once a US Naval Military Officer navigating the seas of Japan, Anabel Roza now traverses the landscape of the climate movement at Climate Cardinals.

While this may appear like a huge transition, naval experience ignited Anabel’s interest in climate. While abroad, Anabel first noticed the impact of the changing environment on different parts of the world.

“There’s a big difference in how global warming and [increased] water temperatures and rising sea levels will affect a small island nation. It’s like, much more drastic. Especially when fishing and getting their food from the ocean,” she commented.

Anabel’s concerns about the environment grew, but so did her motivation as she watched the locals respond.

“Everybody seemed invested and cared a lot about keeping their environment and their communities sustainable… I just felt like there was a deeper sense of personal responsibility while I was living over there.”

So, she started her search to get involved. “When I was in Japan and looking for international opportunities, I found Climate Cardinals, and I was really impressed by the global reach.”

After following Climate Cardinals on social media for a few months, Anabel started volunteering with the organization.

“I saw first-hand how countries around the world were being impacted by the increasing reach of climate change, and how Climate Cardinals was creating opportunities for education and connection amidst this changing environment,” Anabel said. “I was motivated to get involved in this organization any way that I could.”

Having been with Climate Cardinals for some time, Anabel has become familiar with projects prioritizing environmental work.

“My time with CC has been exciting, dynamic, and a wonderful professional learning experience. Through the fundraising efforts with the finance team, I was able to see the behind-the-scenes work that it takes to make a successful organization run!”

Now, Anabel serves as the Regional Co-President of Climate Cardinals North American Chapters.

“I am thrilled to have another opportunity to get involved with this wonderful organization and grow our base network through leadership and local grassroots movements. I am motivated by the hardworking volunteers at Climate Cardinals and honored to be a part of this organization!”
